Naming & Welcoming Ceremonies
Naming ceremonies are becoming more and more popular, and I think they are great!
Bringing family and friends together to celebrate a key milestone, welcoming a new member of the family – what could be better!
Often Naming Ceremonies are held for younger children, sometimes combined with a first birthday. But there is no ‘set way’, so you can hold a ceremony to mark any significant point in a young child’s life. Welcoming adopted or step-children into the family is another wonderful opportunity to hold a family gathering and mark it with a specially created Ceremony.
Naming/Welcoming Ceremonies can be held anywhere; at home, in the park, in the garden or a local village hall. The choice is yours.
A general structure for a naming Ceremony goes like this…
A Welcome
…to everyone!
Reflection
…on your child’s arrival in the family and the story behind their name
Consideration
…of the challenges facing you as a new parent
Inclusion
…of readings, music, symbolic actions, family members, friends
Promises
…made by the supporting adults – ‘Godparents’ or however you wish them to be identified
The Naming Ceremony
…professionally delivered by me
The Toast!
It’s your Ceremony so you can include any other elements you wish!
As with any Ceremony I conduct, you have my full attention on the day as I only conduct one Ceremony per day. Children can make things unpredictable, so there are no worries about overrunning…
